Member of Parliament for Zomba Changalume, Dr. Feston Kaupa, has emphasized the need for stronger collaboration among local leaders, saying unity is essential if communities are to fully benefit from development opportunities.
Kaupa made the remarks during the official handover of Namadidi Health Clinic, a project that involved the rehabilitation of the health facility, procurement of medical equipment, and construction of a staff house.
The MP noted that development efforts can only succeed when leaders work together toward a common goal, warning that divisions and unnecessary conflicts among stakeholders often slow down progress and deprive communities of much-needed services.
“As leaders, we must put the interests of the people first. Infighting and working in isolation only delay development and reduce the impact of projects meant to improve people’s lives,” said Kaupa.

The legislator, who also serves as Minister of Defence, appealed to Senior Chief Mlumbe to help foster cooperation among leaders in the constituency. He urged Ward Councillors and the Member of Parliament’s office to work as partners rather than competitors in advancing development initiatives.
Responding to the call, Senior Chief Mlumbe welcomed the completion and handover of the health facility, describing it as a significant milestone for the community after years of anticipation.
He pledged his continued support for development programs aimed at improving the welfare of people in the area.
Meanwhile, Director of Economic Planning and Development for Zomba District Council, Henderson Kaumi, expressed satisfaction that the community had finally received the completed project. He said the facility was implemented under the Governance to Enable Service Delivery (GESD) Project, a World Bank-funded initiative designed to improve access to essential public services.
The newly rehabilitated Namadidi Health Clinic is expected to enhance healthcare delivery in the area by providing improved infrastructure, medical equipment, and accommodation for health workers, thereby increasing access to quality healthcare services for surrounding communities.
Community members have welcomed the development, expressing hope that the improved facility will help address long-standing healthcare challenges and reduce the distance residents travel to access medical services.
